Particular and elegant tea table made of flamed European walnut of the highest quality in Art Deco style, the top is octagonal in shape, has a second convenient shelf at the bottom, also octagonal, which helps to make the whole structure very solid, the two plans are connected by four cylindrical supports in black lacquered wood shaped and well modeled with simple lines and rigorous and slightly rounded in the center, the whole is supported by four solid oval feet also lacquered in black. The tops have been "slab" in the orange segment with flamed European walnut (Juglans Regia) absolutely one of the most valuable and fascinating woods that make it particularly appreciated in the field of luxury furniture; the flamed type appears as a set of twisted wood fibers that give the wood its characteristic hardness and compactness; this species of wood also has an absolutely unique aesthetic value, since, thanks to the many natural veins, always different, it is very elegant and refined. The table was made in Art Deco style by expert wood craftsmen, between 1930 and 1933 in a workshop in Chambery, a town in the woods of the department of Savoy, right at the foot of the Alps. The most interesting and fascinating peculiarity of this table is the processing with which it was made: the "slab". The exact term is Italian "lastronatura" untranslatable in English, in fact, the "lastronatura" is very different and older than “wood veneer”. The”lastronatura” is an artisan technique that spread already during the sixteenth century and remained unchanged until the mid-19th century before the Industrial Revolution; it consisted of hand-cutting the trunks of noble wood (walnut, briar, walnut-burr, etc.) with ancient saws in so many layers with thicknesses ranging from 4 to 6 millimeters, which were then applied to furniture for decorative purposes; the finishing of this procedure was very complex: the wood layer was treated with natural earth dissolved in water for the desired shade, it was aged with stone, fixed with shellac applied with a brush and finally polishing was performed in 12 steps with a cotton pad soaked in shellac, straw oil with pumice stone powder. The “lastronatura” should not be confused with the “wood veneer” which is a modern process, in fact, the wood layer is cut by machine and the thickness is below 1 mm, while that of the “lastronatura”, as already mentioned, is from 4 to 6 mm. This ancient technique, applied to our table, has allowed us to exalt the chromaticism, the flaming, and the veining of the precious flamed walnut. The craftsmen who have worked on this table have succeeded in creating an extraordinary, refined and unique piece of furniture capable of communicating suggestions of past times, tradition, and functionality. The table has been treated by hand with ancient restoration techniques by our team of craftsmen and is in excellent condition. Measures diameter cm.53, height cm.60. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
