About the Item

Brutalist coffee table produced in the style of Dutch designer Paul Kingma, whose pioneering mosaic stone and steel work defined a significant portion of 1960s and 1970s Dutch furniture production. The top is composed of large-format natural stone tiles — dark gray slate and warm rust-brown stone — arranged in a structured grid pattern and set flush within a heavy rectangular steel channel frame. The combination of cool and warm stone tones is characteristic of the earthy, geological palette Kingma, and those influenced by him, favored. The base consists of two sled-form legs fabricated from thick rectangular steel tube with a darkened, patinated finish. The structural weight of the base balances the dense stone top Shows some wear consistent with age and use, including surface variation in the stone tiles and oxidation on the steel base.
