About the Item
Maison Lecan presents this coffee table by Robert (1930-2008) and Jean (1930-2015) Cloutier, French ceramicists whose work under the ZG2 label is today actively sought after by collectors of 1970s design.
The top is composed of enamelled ceramic tiles forming an immediately recognisable graphic composition: brilliant black ground, tight vertical white lines, red and orange relief ellipses rhythmically distributed across the entire surface. The interplay between the geometric rigour of the grid and the organic character of the relief forms is typical of the Cloutier aesthetic. The ceramic is in good overall condition, with a few light surface marks normal for a piece of this age.
The black lacquered metal frame, restrained and well-proportioned, with its horizontal stretchers and patinated brass fixings, frames the top without competing with it.
