About the Item
Taking inspiration from a collection of hand carved tables, a scooped out tabletop with a sloping underbelly is created with a little help from technology. This series explores how shaped tabletops in dimensions suited for contemporary life can be milled to avoid warping or cracking over time. The result is a sculptural form that is striking and memorable.
Built in Pacific Northwest from solid American walnut. Available in custom sizes with a clear oil finish. Also available in ash and Douglas Fir.

Grain
Grain is a design practice dedicated to social and environmental responsibility. Our work unites current manufacturing technologies and age-old craft techniques. Goods are produced in small batch runs at our island studio or through special collaborations with expert artisans in the US and abroad. As a full service design consultancy and studio, we offer expertise in research, strategy and design for companies interested in uniting sustainability and business through design. In 2008, we began to design and produce a line of in-house products for wholesale and retail markets that are created as sustainably as possible in the Pacific Northwest or in collaboration with artisan communities in Guatemala. About the Partners: James and Chelsea Minola met during a Wintersession course in Guatemala while studying at the Rhode Island School of Design and quickly learned that they had quite a bit of personal history in common: Both grew up in Southern California and had family living on an island in the Puget Sound. The pair also shared an ambition to make a positive impact with their design educations by dedicating their practice to social and environmental responsibility.
Custom dimensions are available. We have made these tables as coffee, side, and desks. We can produce with custom flat top. As a standard, we use FSC certified ash, but we can price in other wood species such as oak or walnut. We use a wax and oil based natural finish but are open to other finishes. For example, we can make in walnut with a clear finish. Custom dimensions, woods, and finishes will add to pricing.
