About the Item

Cocktail table, walnut, teak and beech, attributed to Arne Vodder, Denmark 1950s. This triangular coffee table with legs of beech and shoes of teak. The table has three legs that are connected with beech slats that form a T. The table is unique in many ways and the number three seems to form a defining number, three corners, three legs. The side table is most likely by the designer Arne Vodder who is known for his combination of slender and organic design with rounded corners and excellent material and craftsmanship. Arne Vodder (1926-2009) should be counted among the most influential Scandinavian mid-century designers, although he is not as well known as for instance Hans Wegner or Arne Jacobson. Once a student to famous furniture designer Finn Juhl, who later became his friend and business partner. Vodder started out as an architect who designed low-cost housing, later on he began designing furniture. Although his designs are anything but low-quality, his aim for functional design that could be used by all remained important. He designed amongst others for Fritz Hansen & Sibast.
