About

Fran Taubman's prototype coffee table is simply constructed by multi-colored hammered aluminum shapes arranged three-dimensionally with a glass top. Inspired by Dutch furniture designer and architect Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, this design truly is a geometric entity. Made in 2012, this piece comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from the artist.

Born and raised in Baltimore, Fran Taubman graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1979 with a degree in industrial design, and a BFA in Fine Art. In 1988 Fran established her first studio in Bridgehampton, NY and later moved to Shelter Island, NY where she has lived and operated her studio since 2005. Fran's artistic passion is the fabrication of sculptural lighting and furniture using stock industrial materials (bronze, copper and steel) and machines. None of the work is cast. She also fabricates gates, balustrades, walls, and doors commissioned by architects and designers. Her goal is to reveal the beauty in the assemblage and joinery of the stock metals. All of Fran's work is fabricated in her Shelter Island studio in the spirit of the 20th century American Arts and Crafts Movement.

Please note: This piece is not currently on display at 200 Lexington but will ship directly from the artist's studio.
