"Cuvee XL" Low Rectangular Side Table by Stephane Lebrun for Dessie'
Located in Brooklyn, NY
"Cuvee XL" is a low rectangular side table, designed by Stephane Lebrun and manufactured by Dessie', featuring a top in black MD walnut veneered or covered by black leather and a metallic base structure made of square section steel with an antique nickel finish. Indoor use only. DIMENSIONS: D. 31.5", W. 59", H. 13.8" Keeping alive the tradition of cabinet-making and adapting it to the contemporary aesthetic and functional needs in an economic field now ruled by industrial production is not an easy job. A lof of passion and great handcrafting skills are needed: it's something you can learn working in your family, just like what happened to Stephane Lebrun. STEPHANE LEBRUN was born in Belgium in 1973. His training in cabinet-making and architecture has enabled him to build himself the furniture pieces and projects he designs. This unique approach has opened the doors of prestigious places such as the Brussels Museum of Modern Art, the Manneken-Pis and the Belgium Museum of Embroidery. DESSIE' company's mission is putting a contemporary spin on the old tradition of cabinet-making, in order to offer pieces of furniture ready to get people excited and to satisfy aesthetic and functional values of the contemporary way of living. Dessie' was started during 1990s and now proposes a collection of pieces of furniture inviting to discover a sophisticated and elegant design, an unique style where different influences merge, and to re-create a simple and refined design atmosphere for unconventional people who are freely looking for essential and high quality pieces. A collection, including tables, small tables, writing desks, console tables, bedside tables, chairs, bookcases, dressers, cabinets, cupboards, upholstered pieces of furniture and lamps, which was created having in mind an essential style and a careful attention to recent trends. Harmony of forms and care for high quality and rational design, attentively studying any detail, are some of key features of production by Dessie', which has been always reworking the legacy from the tradition by means of a strongly contemporary design language. The aim is to create a forward-looking style which anyway doesn't lose the value of the past as a main feature, in order to give any setting an original charme, indifferent to passing fads. Hence here's a formal language which uninterruptedly takes care of details and precious finishes, while experimenting expressive capabilities of the best materials: precious woods, steel, leather, natural fibers, etc. Flexibility and possibility of customizing any piece in order to offer a "tailor-made" production is one of key design criteria followed by Dessie'. Dessie' established a close cooperation with some famous international designers, like the Catalan Jaime Tresserra, who designed "Tecnica" collection. Besides its own production, Dessie' has been taking the assignment of selecting products by some Spanish companies (Andreu World, Carpyen, Dae, Indecasa, Mobles 114, Punt Mobles...

Isamu Noguchi Low Table IN-50 for Herman Miller
Located in Los Angeles, CA
The glass has Isamu Noguchi's signature and the base has a Herman Miller tag. The Noguchi table is a piece of modernist furniture first produced in the mid-20th century. Introduced by Herman Miller in 1947, it was designed in the United States by Japanese American artist and Industrial designer Isamu Noguchi. The Noguchi table comprises a wooden base composed of two identical curved wood pieces, and a heavy plate glass top. The Noguchi table was an evolution of a rosewood and glass table Noguchi designed in 1939 for A. Conger Goodyear, president of the Museum of Modern Art.[1] The design team at Herman Miller was so impressed by the table's use of biomorphism that they recruited Noguchi to design a similar table with a freeform sculptural base and biomorphic glass top for use in both residential and office environments.[1] The 1947 Herman Miller catalog described the Noguchi coffee table as "sculpture-for-use" and "design for production". The base was carved from solid walnut, and consisted of two identical parts; when one part "is reversed and connected to the other by a pivot rod, a base appears which has a smoothly flowing form and an interest rarely found in furniture of any period". The shape of the two wooden supports produces a self-supporting and stabile base, allowing the heavy plate glass top to be placed without the use of connectors. The Noguchi table became one of Herman Miller's most iconic and successful designs. Production ceased in 1973, and the piece became an instant collectible. Herman Miller reissued it in 1980 in a limited edition of about 480 tables. The table was reintroduced again in 1984 for the "Herman Miller Classics" line, and has been in production ever since. Isamu Noghuci “Any material, any idea without hindrance born into space, I consider sculpture,” said the prolific sculptor-designer Isamu Noguchi. He believed the sculptor’s task was to shape space, to give it order and meaning, and that art should “disappear,” becoming one with its surroundings. Perhaps it was his Dual heritage—his father was a Japanese poet, his mother a Scottish-American writer—that led him to look at the world with an eye for “oneness.” Unwilling to be pigeonholed, Noguchi created sculptures as abstract as Henry Moore’s and as realistic as da Vinci’s. He used any medium he could put his hands on: stone, metal, wood, clay, bone, paper, or a combination—carving, casting, cutting, pounding, chiseling, or dynamiting as his forms took shape. “To limit yourself to a particular style may make you an expert of that particular viewpoint or school, but I do not wish to belong to any school,” he said. “I am always learning, always discovering.” His extraordinary output included playgrounds and plazas, furniture and gardens, those stone-carved busts and delicate Akari paper lights...
