Philip and Kelvin LaVerne “Chan” Coffee Table, Acid Etched Brass, 1960s

About the Item

This is an iconic Philip and Kelvin Laverne "Chan" coffee table made of acid etched brass over pewter over wood and patinated brass. The table features a substantial 47.25" round top and is supported by an architectural octagonal pedestal base. The surface is decorated with acid-etched chinoiserie palace scenes depicting elegant figures, pavilions, gardens, and landscape motifs rendered in intricate relief. Layers of patinated metal create remarkable depth and texture, revealing luminous tones of silver, pewter, bronze, and verdigris blue-green that shift beautifully with changing light. The underside retains its original maker's label, inscribed "Chan, #142 Table", confirming authenticity. Signed Philip and Kelvin Laverne on top. This versatile statement piece works well in modern interiors as a coffee table, an accent piece, a sculptural centerpiece, and a great conversational piece. Its generous scale and artistic presence make it equally suitable for traditional, transitional, Hollywood Regency, and contemporary homes.
