Round Wood and Bronze 32" Round Coffee Table in Walnut by Alabama Sawyer
About the Item
Inspired by Japanese shou sugi ban finishes, that we use on our hyo table and beam bench. We developed our own decorative hardware to enhance the beauty and function to start a new lineage of work. A recent collaboration with resident Birmingham metal artists, along with our bounty of unique lumber from the local urban forest, imbues this round wood and bronze table with a richness and tactile pleasure.
This piece works for a luxe, residential living room or indoor sitting area.
The ultra low sheen urethane finish makes it durable, but natural looking for a boutique executive lounge. With elegant design and clean lines, modern and comfortable, each piece is masterfully crafted to delight and endure, and will elevate a living room or den.
All wood has character. Walnut pieces may contain color variations ranging from deep brown to light yellow. Character can include variations in color and grain, small pin knots, evidence of historical intrusion. There may be cracks or knots that we fill, patch or join in a considered and artful way at the makers discretion. We look at every slab and decide what needs a patch or epoxy or both. Case by case, one may be more effective and better for the furniture, aesthetically, structurally, and for our process.

Alabama Sawyer
At Alabama Sawyer, we design modern, environmentally sustainable products from fallen trees in the Birmingham, Alabama area. Since we began in 2014, we have diverted hundreds of logs from the landfill by transforming them into award-winning furniture and products for homes and businesses. Instead of letting trees waste in a landfill, we gather them from municipalities, businesses and homeowners to give them a second life. Urban wood has character. Urban wood has knots, burls and insect holes. It’s not "perfect" — it’s unique, one-of-kind and stunningly beautiful. The constraints and adaptations of growing in the urban forest creates character. We handle each log individually with an eye for the best cut. Then we mill it to show off its inner beauty. Our wood is better for the environment. Urban forests give us cleaner air and cooler temperatures. A living tree provides great value to the community — so can a repurposed one. Historically, felled city trees are taken to the landfill to decompose. Every year, Americans bury 4 billion board feet of usable hardwood trees in our city landfills. Using urban wood keeps them from releasing carbon back into the atmosphere where it contributes to climate change. Using urban wood in long-lasting furniture doesn't matter unless the design is right. Our furniture won Garden and Gun's overall Made in the South award in 2017. Our products are specified by top designers and architects nationwide and sold in cutting-edge design collections.
Our tables can be made in most custom sizes, species and finishes. Any options can alter the price for the product and shipping.
