About the Item

An antique Chinese table with elegant lines, made from a dense hardwood such as hongmu (rosewood/blackwood) or dark elm. This shape and style is often associated with the Ming or Qing Dynasty periods. The stable dates to the mid to late 19th century. The table features a classic, elegant design with a "floating panel" top designed to allow the wood to expand and contract with humidity and temperature changes without cracking. It has an openwork or carved apron below the tabletop, which includes a double-circle motif on the front and sides, and simple, round legs connected by stretchers. Due to its smaller size, and rectangular shape it can function as a side table, accent table, entry table or a stand for a vase or bonsai plant. The construction typically utilizes traditional Chinese joinery, with as mortise and tenon joints, rather than nails or glue, which is characteristic of antique high-quality antique Chinese furniture.
