Ardu Console - Edition of 12

About the Item

Ardu is Irish for uplifting or to rise above. Inspired by skeletal structures, Ardu is a piece of sculptural craftsmanship. Repetition of form creates a rib cage-like formation resulting in a piece of intricate beauty. The sculptural elements reminiscent of delicate bones and brass spacers evocative of the human vertebrae, create division within the rhythmic pattern, in unison forming the structure of Ardu. Maple was chosen due to its light delicate properties. Glass was selected for the table top so visual connection with the configuration is maintained from all perspectives. Individual entities are combined to form one sculptural piece resulting in Ardu. The overall length can be modified by adding or reducing the amount of legs on each table. An edition of 12 consoles, Ardu is signed, dated and numbered in a discrete location and also comes with a certificate of authenticity from the maker. Martin Gallagher is a furniture designer maker from Sligo on the North West coast of Ireland. Growing up on a small rural farm surrounded by dramatic limestone mountains, extraordinary woodlands, windswept beaches and the awe-inspiring ocean, Martin has always drawn inspiration from his environment. As a keen surfer, Martin has a unique perspective on the contrasting patterns and diverse effects created by the Atlantic Ocean, both on land and in the water. He also has an interest in skeletal structures particularly in their repetitive forms and unique construction. The elaborate systems of bone structures evoke his interest in repetitive forms and complex configurations. Structurally, physically or visually, his furniture owe their forms to his environs creating extraordinary designs. His contemporary furniture is handmade using a combination of traditional techniques and modern technology to create distinctive pieces. Fusing together the basic elements of wood, glass, metal and decorative veneers, Martin's emphasis on embracing modern materials and the use of color give his work a fresh innovative aesthetic.
