19th Century Monumental Chinese Altar Table
About the Item
19th century carved gilded monumental Chinese Altar table. Five richly carved story board panels elaborate the apron with intricate carved figures showing through gilded red lacquer. Set underneath a solid one piece top plank with everted flanges of worn black lacquer. The tables legs sits "On Stand" which is to highlight and elevate it's importance. Each front leg top is carved with a lion face resting on top the leg with a paw which sits on top a carved column like stand. The significance of additional height is relevant to status and importance. The table top or shelf is 47 inches high and the everted flanges at each end are 49 inches high. Auspicious carved story boards showcase three immortals on the middle panel, flanked with the power and insight of the dragon and the lion to right and left, each sides last panel with the prosperity, knowledge, wisdom, health. Lower apron having a carved dragon to each side and "FU" symbol (to bring great luck and fortune) in the middle.
A rare impressive significant table of the Qing Dynasty. China circa 1840, Hubei. A stunningly dramatic Antique table that will enhance any setting.
