Lorenzo Burchiellaro Pair of Console Tables in Copper

About the Item

Lorenzo Burchiellaro, console tables, copper, stained beech, Italy, 1960s This magnificent pair of console tables was created by Italian designer and sculptor Lorenzo Burchiellaro (1933–2017) in the 1960s. The copper is in beautiful, patinated condition, and its vibrant yet natural oxidation and golden hues are truly remarkable. Burchiellaro is known for his artistic use of metals in the creation of decorative objects and furniture. His materials of choice were often gold, silver, aluminum, zinc, and, in this case, copper. The fact that Burchiellaro was a sculptor is evident in these tables, which could easily function as works of art. The rectangular tops rest on round wooden feet. The way Burchiellaro arranged the straight-cut copper pieces across the surfaces creates a striking patchwork effect with vibrant variations in color. As a result, the tables are unique not only in their composition but also in their texture. Rows of circular press marks remain visible, further emphasizing the handcrafted nature of the pair.
