Maurice Barilone for Roche Bobois Fleur de Fer Oxidized Steel and Glass Console

About the Item

Designed by renowned Franco-Italian designer Maurice Barilone for Roche Bobois, this sculptural Fleur de Fer console table exemplifies the designer's celebrated approach to transforming industrial materials into functional works of art. #5485 The substantial base is crafted from thick sheets of solid steel, which have been cut, shaped, and opened to create four dramatic, curvilinear forms. The resulting composition possesses both visual movement and architectural strength, while the original oxidized reddish finish, offered by Roche Bobois, accentuates the raw beauty and expressive texture of the material. A generous ¾-inch thick glass top appears to float above the sculptural steel base, providing a striking contrast between transparency and mass. Both highly decorative and exceptionally well constructed, the Fleur de Fer collection has become one of Maurice Barilone's most enduring designs for Roche Bobois. Barilone described his work as revealing "the element in every object that brings it alive," a philosophy embodied in this iconic console, where the rigidity of steel is transformed into a fluid, organic form. Produced by Roche Bobois since the early 1990s, the Fleur de Fer collection remains a hallmark of contemporary French design. Provenance: Roche Bobois, France. Designer: Maurice Barilone.
