18th C. Carved Walnut Lyre-Leg Table, Italy
About the Item
An Italian carved walnut wood table with lyre legs from the 18th century. This antique table from Italy features a rectangular-shaped top which is raised upon a pair of sinuously carved lyre inspired trestle-style legs. The legs are braced beneath the table top with a pair of straight wood stretchers running horizontally along the floor. There is a second pair of straight wood stretchers that cross beneath the table top, filling the space and adding visual interest with a vertical x-shape design. This walnut wood table has a deep, rich brown with lovely patina and age, reflective of it's history. There are some old repairs to the wood, most notably a wood patch at the top (refer to additional photos for more information on this) which we find to add further character to this piece. There is a 29.5 inch clearance height between the floor and the underside of the top. This 18th century Italian lyre-leg table is a nice medium size at just shy of 5 feet in length, making for versatility within your home or office, perhaps being useful as an entry table or a desk.

- 18th C. English Architect's Table w/Unique Legs, Expanding Top, & Candle ShelvesLocated in Atlanta, GAAn English expandable architect's table with candle stands from the 18th century. This antique table from England would have originally been used as an architects work desk, complete with a pair of small shelves that pull out from either side of that table, that would have supported candles for lighting. The rectangular-shaped top rests atop an apron that houses a faux-drawer with single brass handle, that when pulled, reveals an extension to the table. This slide out wood top is lined with leather, creating an additional writing pad surface. The leather top an also be slid back under the main top, keep legs out, granting access to storage within (see images for more details on this). Carved bracket accents adorn the underside of the skirt against each of the squared outer legs, which partially wrap the outer edges of the nicely-turned inner legs (which are slightly longer and terminate into petite caster feet). Needless to say, this piece has very interesting legs! A curvy x-style stretcher bar braces the legs under the bottom center for additional support. Note that the pull out leather top adds an additional 28" x 13" table top work space, with a floor clearance underneath of 24".
