British Colonial Burnt Bamboo and Rattan Desk and Coordinating Chair

About the Item

This is a handsome writing desk with a coordinating chair in the British Colonial style, produced in the U.K. sometime during the mid-20th century. The bamboo has a burnt effect, and has a black lacquered top surface. There are woven panels on the sides and on the back of the top. There is a hand-painted, chinoiserie-themed motif on the top surface and on the fronts of the three drawers. The pulls on each of the drawers are fashioned from brass. The matching chair is also made of burnt bamboo, and has a caned seat and back. The desk measures 21.5 inches deep, 41 inches wide, and 40.5 inches high. The chair measures 17.25 deep and 39.75 inches high with a seat height of 17.25 inches.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. The desk and chair are in good condition, but have normal wear expected on a piece of this age. There is wear to the lacquer surface on the desk, and there is some discoloration on the woven panels. Please see photos.
