Contemporary Claro Walnut Live Edge Table with Cast Bronze Edge
About the Item
Handcrafted by Taylor Donsker in Northern California, the cast edge desk features a cast bronze live edge seamlessly attached to a single slab of highly figured Claro walnut. The wood grain textured cast bronze live edge maintains high levels of detail due to the lost wax casting process. Taylor's signature polished brass Corset joints line the natural imperfections along slab's surface adding ornamental beauty and reinforcement along with the more traditional Rosewood butterfly joints. The table rests upon a hollow Shear base made of patinated steel. This hollowness allows cords to remain hidden as they travel through the polished brass grommet in the slab top, into the base, and discretely out of the back leg.
Realizing that every material has a grain, a strength and a weakness, an origin and an end, Taylor's work seamlessly combines materials with different and oftentimes opposing properties. Exploiting these differences allows him to both highlight the architectural connections that join the differing materials and allow them to become physically and visually stronger than they are on their own. The resulting heightened strength allows for moments of structural defiance such as the appearance of weightlessness or flotation and increased functionality. All wooden elements in the table are finished with Taylor's signature, velvety smooth hand rubbed oil and wax finish and handcrafted in Northern California. Each piece is made to order and completely customizable.
