French Art Deco Bookmatched Satinwood Desk with Silvered Pulls by Jean Royère

About

This elegant Art Deco desk was custom-made, by hand, in France, circa 1940, by Jean Royère- one of the most esteemed and influential designers of the first half of the 20th Century. Composed of bookmatched satinwood- offering a stunning a dramatic grain- it features a rectangular top and sides with matching rectangular cut outs at the base of each. The sides extend slightly beyond the top of the table culminating in streamlined forms. The desk offers two spacious drawers with rectangular silvered pulls as well as a centre drawer with its original lock and key. The key of features a square handle with subtly rounded corners and a hollowed out centre. Additionally, there is a slide on the left side of this piece with a streamlined ovoid pull. The desk comes with an original hand drawn architectural rendering depicting this custom piece in the space for which it was designed. With its beautiful materials, clean lines and superlative artisanal construction, this piece is as aesthetically compelling as it is versatile, blending perfectly with any style of interior from Classic deco to contemporary.
