Stunning French Louis Revival Brass Inlaid "Boulle" Writing Table, 20th Century
A very nice piece made in the Louis XV style and dating from the latter half of the 20th century, this is a large and finely crafted vintage French writing table, otherwise often referred to as a bureau plat, which is certain to become the subject of a conversation wherever it is placed. This Louis XV style Boulle writing table however is about more than good looks alone and to think of it in such a way would do not do justice to this fine vintage bureau plat. As you can see from the gallery of images we have provided, this writing table has been constructed to a very exacting standard and is ebonized and elaborately decorated throughout by means of a number of exquisite ormolu mounts. For added comfort, convenience and style, the writing area has been finished with a sumptuous burgundy colored, gold-tooled writing surface in real leather, as you can see from the photographs. In order to provide plenty of convenient storage for your stationery and other office supplies, the writing table is fitted with three extremely useful and capacious drawers. The style is described as “Boulle” in respect of its adherence to the style created by a certain Andre Charles Boulle (1642-1732) who was a renowned French cabinetmaker and who was generally considered to be the pre-eminent artist in the field of marquetry. The makers fame in the craft of marquetry led to his name being used to describe a particular style of inlay which became known as Boulle work or “Buhl” work.
