Art Deco Dining Room Set by Mercier Freres, France, 1920s

About the Item

Rare and stunning Art Deco dining-room set by Mercier Freres, dating from the 1920s, comprising a large, square, extendable table, eight chairs, a sideboard with top display cabinet, and a second sideboard/credenza. All the pieces are clad in a beautiful diamond-patterned veneer, in luxurious reddish-toned wood (palisander/rosewood?). The cabinet and credenza have silvered bronze hardware which has been left oxidized, but could easily be polished up to its original shine. The top vitrine has a mirror back. The credenza has a green marble top. The chairs are upholstered in original green floral-patterned velvet, with nailhead trim. The table has a very unusual and striking scalloped base design. The manufacturer's label is attached to the table base. Dimensions provided below are for the table. The other pieces measure (in centimeters): Sideboard and display cabinet: Height 177, width 250, depth 63. Credenza: Height 93, width 162, depth 93. Chairs: Height 101, width 52, depth 49, seat height 50.
