Art Nouveau Dining Suite with Six Chairs and Extension Table, France, circa 1900

About the Item

An exceptional Art Nouveau dining suite in walnut comprising of an extension table and six dining chairs that are original to the suite. Table features very well-articulated open and high-relief carvings of whiplash curves, a popular motif during the Art Nouveau period, and offers two original leaves that rest on drawer supports. Suite is from the region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais in France, from the city of Lille or possibly from across the border in Brussels, Belgium, circa 1900. Table is accompanied by a set of six very beautiful and well-articulated Art Nouveau dining chairs with walnut frames featuring open-carved whiplash curves on back crest, carved floral finials, and raised carvings of whiplash curves on apron and knees of front saber legs, France, circa 1890-1900. Note: Walnut chair frames have been restored and French-polished, and have been newly re-upholstered in cream-colored, Sunbrella fabric with Kravet Classic Tape trim. Table has been restored and French-polished. Chairs: 18.5" wide x 19" deep x 41.25" high (seat height: 19.5"). Table: 51.5" long x 39.5" wide x 29" high (two leaves: 18" wide each). Condition:
Refinished. Reupholstered. Repaired: all table and chairs joints have been inspected, cleaned re-glued and clamped where necessary. Upholstery on seats is new Chairs and table were French polished. Wear consistent with age and use. All components of this dining suite have been restored and French-polished. Chairs have been newly upholstered in a cream-colored, indoor/outdoor Sunbrella fabric. Table top has a very slight gap when in the closed position.
