New York Gilded Age 12'-20' Long Extension Dining Table in West Indies Mahogany

About the Item

From the American Gilded Age, a magnificent extension dining table that measures 11 feet 10 inches at its smallest and opens to 19 feet 9 inches when fully extended. Made of a fine close-grain solid West Indies mahogany, it has well-articulated carvings that include a dramatic gadrooning along the edge of the racetrack-top and on the leaves, carved volutes with acanthus carvings on the legs and center supports. New York, circa 1890. There are 6 leaves that are fully-skirted and carved, giving the table a totally finished look when fully extended to its maximum capacity. It is shown here in photographs 1, 2, 3 & 6 at 16 feet and in photos 4 & 5 fully open to 19' 9". Table opens easily to insert the leaves. The center legs always stay in the center when table is extended. The carved pillars that are between the end legs and the center legs move with the table. The special relationship of the pillars to the end legs remains the same as the table is extended. A perfect table in a large dining room that can seat between 16 and 18 very comfortably depending on the size of the chair, and could seat up to 22 if dining with family and close friends. The upholstered chairs shown with the table are 23" wide. Twelve (12) of these dining chairs can be tucked under when the table is not in use, the arm chairs in this case do not slide under the apron. There is a height clearance of 27 1/4" from the floor to the underside of the fluted apron giving the diner ample leg room. Table has been restored and French-polished in our restoration facility which has been doing museum-quality work for over 34 years.

Refinished. Repaired: Repairs were made to the table slide to put it into excellent mechanical condition. Wear consistent with age and use. This Belle Époque dining table is very solid & in very good to excellent condition. It has been completely restored & French-polished in our workshop. Table comes with a leaf box to house the 6 leaves when not in use.
