Vintage White Laminate Custom Parsons Style Rectangle Dining Table
Located in Topeka, KS
Stunning vintage white laminate custom made Parson’s style rectangle dining table. Gorgeous condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The table has small flaws aka tiny chips on two of their corners that we have repaired. And it has small hairline cracks in the laminate on the sides of each leg where they meet the top. These small imperfections do not detract from the beauty or stability. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Late 20th Century. WOW! Parson’s tables are SO attractive!! And we have a striking custom-made white laminate dining Parson’s style tables to offer to you! Such a timeless, classic design that dates to 1930 when French designer Jean-Michael Frank decided he was going to design a table that was simple enough that it could fit into any home regardless of style preference. Contemporary, Art Deco, Bauhaus, Hollywood Regency, Industrial, traditional, mid-century modern, or modern, Parson’s style tables just work! They almost take on whatever style you put them with. And talk about durability! It is comprised of all white laminate so when the grandkids are over you won’t have to worry, and you don’t have to sacrifice style for stamina! What a plus! AND, it can beautifully host any type of dining chairs you place around them. This table just has endless appeal. The original Parson’s table was designed in New York City at the Parson’s School of Design by French designer Jean-Michael Frank in the 1930’s. There is an article that states, "Frank challenged students to design a table so basic that it would retain its integrity whether sheathed in gold leaf, mica, parchment, split straw or painted burlap, or even left robustly unvarnished. What grew out of Frank's sketches and the students' participation was initially called the T-square table. Parsons tables are often intended for use as modern or contemporary furniture, and their striking design has made them popular as coffee tables, dining tables, side tables, and occasional tables. Durability, Versatility, and it looks Dynamic!! What are you waiting for?? Make this white Parson’s dining table...

Mid Century Modern Dining table by Alfred Hendrickx for Belform, 1960s
Located in Brugge, BE
1960s Belgium Wenge and chrome 232cm/172cm wide, 90cm deep, 76cm high Alfred Hendrickx (b.1931, Mechelen) emerged as a prominent designer during the dynamic period of the 1950s and 1960s. Celebrated for his influential contributions to the world of design, Hendrickx left an indelible mark, earning him the title of one of Europe’s most important post-war designers. Hendrickx gained widespread recognition for his work with Belform, showcased at the Expo '58. Alongside renowned contemporaries such as Willy Van Der Meeren, Jos De Mey, and Lucien Engels, he stood out as one of the era's preeminent designers. His initial foray into furniture design commenced at the Van Fleteren company, founded by his grandfather Eugéne van Fleteren. Hendrickx's career took root at De Coene Frères, where he crafted modern, functional furniture before moving on to Belform. It was at Belform that he achieved great success, creating a collection of furniture in exotic woods that garnered widespread acclaim. In the 1950s and 1960s, Hendrickx lent his creative prowess to Belgian Bovenkamp, where he designed numerous pieces in teak and mahogany. His signature style was characterized by elegant simplicity, meticulous attention to detail, and the use of high-quality materials. Hendrickx's designs found a wide audience in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany, solidifying his influence on the European design scene. The legacy of Alfred Hendrickx endures through the timeless appeal of his creations. His furniture, known for its sleek lines and modernist aesthetic, has transcended its era, making it highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of retro design. Today, Hendrickx's works, showcased prominently in the Design Museum Ghent, stand as emblematic examples of the Belgian modernist style, serving as a testament to his enduring impact on the world of design. In 2000, Mil De Kooning further immortalized Hendrickx's contributions with the publication of "Contemporary Design - Alfred Hendrickx and the Fifties Furniture...

Shop Antique, New and Vintage Dining Tables on 1stDibs

No matter your furniture style of choice, a shared meal is one of life’s true rewards. Why not treat your family and friends to a luxurious dining experience? Browse our top picks to find the perfect antique, new or vintage dining room table for this important occasion.

Modern furniture design borrows significantly from the trends of yore, and this is especially apparent in dining tables. Ancient Egyptians made practical use of the earliest four-legged tables of wood and rock — their models bear striking similarity to the dining tables of today — while common large medieval dining room tables in England were made of oak or elm. Romans and Greeks, renowned for big banquets that involved entertainment as well as good food, used early dining room tables made of marble or wood and metals such as bronze for meals.

On 1stDibs, find a range of dining room tables that offers no shortage of options to accommodate modest interiors, midsize family homes and even lavish banquets (entertainment not included).

Beginning in the mid-19th century, more American homes featured dining rooms, where families could gather specifically for a meal together. In the States, upper-class families were the first to enjoy dining room tables, which were the centerpiece of the dining room

Dining room tables of the Victorian era were created in a range of revivalist styles inspired by neoclassical, Renaissance, Gothic and other traditions. Furnishings of the period were made of various woods, including oak, rosewood and mahogany, and referenced a variety of decorative arts and architectural motifs. Some dining room tables finished in the Rococo style feature gorgeous inlaid marble tabletops or other ornamental flourishes handcrafted by Parisian furniture makers of the 18th century.

In many modern spaces, there often isn’t a dining room separate from the kitchen — instead, they frequently share real estate in a single area. Mid-century modern dining room tables, specifically those created by designers such as Osvaldo Borsani, Edward Wormley and Alvar Aalto, are typically clean and uncomplicated designs for a dining area that’s adjacent to where the cooking is done. Furniture of this era hasn’t lost its allure for those who opt for a casual and contemporary aesthetic.

If you’re of the modern mindset that making and sharing meals should be one in the same — and perhaps large antique dining tables don’t mesh well with your style — consider a popular alternative. Working with a tighter space may mean that a round or oval dining room table, a design that references the festive meals of the medieval era, may be a better fit. Round dining room tables, particularly those that originated in the Art Deco period, still endure as a popular contemporary substitute for traditional rectangular dining tables. Giovanni Offredi’s Paracarro table for Saporiti Italia is a striking round table option that showcases the magnificent Italian industrial design of the 1970s.
