About
A beautiful round mahogany dining table on a trefoil platform base with facetted edges that end in elegant scrolls.
The base has a triangular facetted column made in solid oak and veneered with mahogany and ends in carved feet to support the tabletop. The tabletop is made in 0.7-inch thick solid mahogany with a bullnose profile and is in a “livre ouvert” style. It is made in two solid pieces of exquisite flower grain mahogany timber that fold open like a book and are therefore symmetrical. (livre ouvert is French for “open book”). The top has a mahogany veneered apron and the ground clearance is 26.18 inches. The table is made in the Netherlands circa 1870 and has been finished with French polish and gained its rich patina over the many years of endless waxing.
Condition details: There was some minor chipping to the veneer of the skirt, this was repaired. The triangular plateau at the bottom shows some wear of the veneer around the edges. This is left as is since it contributes to the antique look of the piece and it is logical given its use. The whole table was gently cleaned and a new protective wax coat was applied. The table is very stable and ready for use. Wear consistent with age and use.
