About the Item

This carefully designed and handcrafted contemporary round wooden dinner table by Tomaz Viana holds a unique Estremoz marble top finely framed by a French oak stripe. It´s elegant geometrical legs join the chamfered top revealing its grain in a decorative but structural exposed joint. This chamfer continues on the shape of the legs giving the whole piece a light overall look and hide the fact that, above, lays a beautiful round Estremoz marble top of 80kg inlaid on the oak frame as if it was just a thin sheet of marble. The whole piece is structured by a fine and intricate hidden system of joints and classical woodworking techniques were applied. Made from solid French white oak and Estremoz marble. Finished without sandpaper or modern technologies, instead, the surface is smoothed with a hand plane and other cutting blade tools, the original techniques used in the 18th century. This methods require years of expertise, knowledge of the material and handling of tools, from it, the surfaces acquire a special patina and since the whole piece of furniture is wood carved, the cut wooden fibres transmit to the sight and touch a sense of poetic and soft primitiveness.
