Giuseppe Rivadossi for Officina Rivadossi Dining Set in Carved Pine

About the Item

Giuseppe Rivadossi for Officina Rivadossi, unique set of seven dining armchairs with table, solid pine, Italy, 1970s This unique dining ensemble is among the finest works we have encountered by the Italian sculptor and designer Giuseppe Rivadossi, whose practice is defined by an intensive engagement with material and a distinctive sculptural approach to furniture. Designed as a complete original set, it is exceptionally rare. Known for uniting craftsmanship with a strong architectural sensibility, Rivadossi consistently explores the expressive potential of carved wood surfaces. The chair's structure is defined by a series of vertical and horizontal slabs, arranged to create a visually stable block-like volume. The overall silhouette is rectilinear, yet softened by the sculptural shaping of the seat, which is gently hollowed out to form a shallow, concave basin. The table has a round slab supported by a smaller, round column. Across the surfaces, the hand-carved gouge marks generate a rhythmic, textured pattern that breaks the rigidity of the geometry. The natural irregularities of pine further emphasize this graphical effect, as knots and grain variations interact with the intensive hand-planed and trimmed finishes. Giuseppe Rivadossi (1935) was born in Monteclana di Nave, Italy, where he still lives and works. At a young age, Rivadossi's path begins with wood carving, with works reflecting on his poetic idea of living. In 1962 Rivadossi took over the carpentry founded in 1920 by his father Clemente, which he transformed into an atelier, or rather a creative workshop. Eventually, Rivadossi and collaborators established 'Officina Rivadossi' in 1976 where he started the manufacture of wooden objects and unique modern furniture.
