Substantial solid pine table produced in Denmark during the 1960s, designed by the architectural firm Knud Friis and Elmar Moltke. The thick plank top features rounded edges and corners with prominent natural knots throughout. Four cylindrical rounded legs connect to a trestle-style stretcher base, with two longitudinal stretchers joined by a central cross-stretcher. The hand-waxed finish enhances the natural grain and provides surface protection. Friis and Moltke were a prominent Danish architectural partnership whose furniture designs closely parallel the work of Rainer Daumiller — a German-born designer who spent much of his career in Denmark producing heavy pine furniture with an organic, back-to-nature sensibility. This strain of Scandinavian design emerged in the late 1960s as a counterpoint to sleek teak modernism, favoring raw materials, solid construction, and visible natural character.
