About the Item

Large antique demi lune dining table France Walnut middle 19th century Dimensions: H x W x L: 77 x 135 x 68 cm - extendable to 406 cm. Description: Quite exceptional antique solid walnut dining table with the original spruce and oak inlay boards. When folded, we see a Demi Lune console with a total of ten subtle turned legs in brass sabots with casters. The console has a width of 135 cm and a depth of 68 cm. If we pull the back of the frame, a kind of drawer opens, which serves as a support for the second half of the table. This results in a circular table with a diameter of 135 cm. The table can now be pulled apart by means of a so-called link system, i.e. a wooden pull-out system that is guided together and into each other. There are six original insert boards, with which the table is extended by about 45 cm each. This gives a total length of 407 cm. In the complete extended area there is a legroom of ca 75 cm. The table is comfortably usable for 14 adults, with children you can certainly entertain 2-4 people more. Condition: Finished restored piece of furniture. The surface is oiled for everyday use, can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and is absolutely authentic in its preservation. There are visible signs of age and use. A great patina that has been expertly refurbished and preserved. Very rare is the original preservation of the inlay boards, which have been lost in most tables over the decades and centuries. Typical is also their processing from simple wood, in the past the extended table was usually used with a tablecloth. The wonderful shade of the boards is a fantastic match for the rest of the table, so it can definitely be used without a cover, in fact it should be. The legs are "shoed" at the bottom, that is, extended by a few centimeters to adapt it to a contemporary height standard.
