The acute twisted angle design plays on the eye in a similar fashion to the Penrose and Escher staircase. The shelf fronts have a twisting beveled edge that neatly turns to meet the side uprights. These are bold visual pieces of furniture that are also highly practical. The Postmodern shelf units or end tables are multi functional pieces and can be used bedroom nightstands or shelves. These units are completely handcrafted by our master craftsmen in the UK using the best English quarter-sawn oak. Quartersawn oak is historically favoured by traditional craftsman and has a number of benefits in furniture making - stability and the wonderful medullary ray figuring. Finished in natural durable oils. Depth angles from 40cm to 20cm. We design bold and distinctive pieces of furniture – our main objective is combining the design alongside the natural beauty and properties of the raw materials. These timbers and materials are very carefully chosen for each specific design - maintaining our focus on the benefits, visual impact and strengths of what we use. Our regular use of English Quartersawn Oak is one case in point. It has been the beloved timber of fine furniture makers across the world for centuries. It is costly to produce but gives huge benefits and rewards such as its striking medullary rays and superb stability qualities. By utilising these wonderful and naturally occurring features with our contemporary designs we aim to continue creating some very distinct, tactile and idiosyncratic pieces. These are all completely handmade, in very small numbers, by our skilled craftspeople in England.
