French Card Table with Parquetry and Gilt Bronze Mounts, 19th Century

About the Item

A fine card table in the Louis XVI manner. Constructed in kingwood with purpleheart crossbanding, and dressed with superbly cast and chased mercury gilt bronze mounts; rising from tapering legs, with bronze sabots cast as leaves and atop, an everted bronze collar; the frieze houses a drawer, the whole having a running complex foliate bronze band: the quartered top, showing cube parquetry decoration, separated by protective bronze fillets, and opening to reveal a baize interior framed within a kingwood border; the top’s edges having a cannelure guard border. French, circa 1870.
