French Louis XV Style Parquetry Gueridon Stand with Marble Top

About the Item

French Louis XV style gueridon or center table with nicely veined green marble top and gilt bronze mounts. The parquetry on the frieze and legs is bois de rose and bois Violette. The marble has a small crack along a vein that is not very noticeable.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor structural damages. Overall good condition with minor scratches and wear consistent with age and use, with the exception of the crack through the marble. The crack is along a vein and not very noticeable. Additional photos are available.

    Very high quality French, Louis XV period commode (sauteuse) stamped by the Ebeniste, "Sebastian Vie" (master, October 5, 1767), and the guild, JME ("Jurande des Menuisiers et Ebenistes", or Guild of Joiners and Cabinetmakers). The commode has been beautifully restored in France with a French polish finish over marquetry of bois de rose (tulipwood) and bois de Violette (kingwood), with light string inlay framing the drawer and side panels. Ornate gilt-bronze mounts in the rococo manner, including lavish key plates. Nicely-variegated burgundy and white (known as "rouge rance") marble top. The interiors of all three drawers are lined in an embroidered silk fabric.
