About the Item

Antique brewery table North Germany Oak 19th century Dimensions: H x W x D: 77 x 263 x 68 cm Description: Long and narrow brewing table made of solid oak with wonderful signs of age and patina. Optimal for 8-10 persons. The base is reinforced at the bottom with an H-brace. The solid oak of the long strut sags slightly, the old beer glaze is hardly preserved here by decades of use. The table's legs and frame are a different story. The original late 19th century paint finish here is absolutely authentic for its age, except in the drawer handle area. Particularly beautiful is the table top, which, as was common at the time, was made from only two wide planks. Since the top has probably been nailed with cloth or linoleum umpteen times in the course of its long existence and rustic origins, there are numerous nail marks and dark discoloration in the areas where the iron of the nails has reacted with the tannic acid of the oak wood. Some may see this as damage or blemishes, but I see it as authentic patina and visibility of a piece of furniture that has lived and been used a lot. If this table could tell... Condition: Refurbished condition. The legs are "shoehorned" at the bottom to bring the table to a present day standard height. Neither the table top nor the base has been sanded. The wood and paint finish have been gently cleaned, cracks and imperfections have been puttied. Finally, the surface was oiled to make it suitable for everyday use. The table is well suited for families with small children, as it definitely forgives any further quirks.
