Pair of Mid-Century French Brass, Steel and Glass Side Tables

About the Item

These elegant vintage side tables were created in Paris circa 1950 and attributed to Maison Jansen. Made of brass and steel, each table stands on long steel legs ending with brass ball feet and decorated with brass mounts at the shoulder; the table is further embellished with a X bottom stretcher decorated with a cone shaped finial. The surface is dressed with the original glass top. The tall occasional tables are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn a rich two-tone patinated gilt and steel finish. The sleek, simple design of the rectangular end tables make these pieces the perfect addition to a living room of any style. Maison Jansen is a Paris-based interior decoration office founded in 1880 by Dutch-born Jean-Henri Jansen. Jansen is considered the first truly global design firm, serving clients in France, Europe, Latin America, North America and the Middle East. Renowned for lavish, gilt-encrusted furniture that harks back to early French design and sleek, metallic-forward pieces that capitalize on Regency-era trends, Maison Jansen created some of the world’s most coveted furniture. At its height, Maison Jansen was also an international interior design powerhouse that employed dozens of designers. Yet it all began humbly enough with one man: Jean-Henri Jansen. Jean-Henri was in his twenties when he founded House of Jansen; while mystery shrouds much of Jansen’s early life, it’s known that he was incredibly well-connected and was trained under several prestigious apprenticeships.
