Paul Laszlo Nesting Tables, Bleached Mahogany, Mid-Century, 1952

About the Item

Nest of three bleached mahogany end tables, with open rectangle side supports, by Paul Laszlo for Brown Saltman, American, 1950s. The largest measuring 24 x 16 in, height 22 3/8 in. These tables epitomize Paul Laszlo’s penchant for pared-down traditionalism and California modernity. Paul Laszlo (1900-1993) was born in Debrecen, Hungary. He was educated in Vienna, Austria and practiced as an architect and de signer in Cologne, Berlin, and Stuttgart for others. He opened, in 1924, his own architectural firm in Vienna. In 1936 he fled Europe and immigrated to the United States and opened an office in Beverly Hills, California. In California, Laszlo had a client list that included Ronald Rea-gan, Cary Grant, Barry Goldwater, Barbara Hutton, Ray Milland, and Billy Wilder among others. Time Magazine called him, "The Rich Man's Architect". Though known for site specific, one-of-a-kind furniture design, Laszlo designed a line of Furniture for Herman Miller as well as Hey-wood-Wakefield, Brown-Saltman, and Ficks-Reed. Laszlo died at 93 in Santa Monica,
