Paper Table L, Console Table in Polished Steel Finish by UMÉ Studio
About the Item
Where metal implies sturdiness, and calls for strong industrial motifs - the I/ the H, the beam / the cross, the Paper Table is a play on our own sense of balance.
It questions the thinness of both surface and structure, in order to reach their minimal expression. What is the minimum structure necessary to draw a sense of comfort and sturdiness, while still feeling fragile and "almost precarious" in its movements.
The metal surface becomes paper-like, levitating - supported by an elegant series of V legs. The result is a perfect balance between stability and thinness.
Listing is for Polished Steel Finish although also available in Stained Black Finish.

UMÉ Studio
AN ATTITUDE TOWARDS CRAFT UMÉ Studio is a design practice where traditional craft meets contemporary tastes in delicate yet purposeful objects for everyday living. Founded by Victor Lefebvre and Mei-Lan Tan, their studio is the final stop in their design process journey. They begin with months-long travels to artisan workshops in many corners of the globe to render century-old skills and techniques, collaborating with a network of artisans and designers dedicated to their craft. Keeping these traditions alive is essential to UMÉ—so is updating their forms and bringing these timeless techniques into the now to achieve authentic, distinctive designs. BEAUTY, FUNCTION, TECHNIQUE Victor and Mei-Lan formed UMÉ Studio after years of working together in architectural firms and a shared design ethos where technique leads to design, rather than design informing technique, as is the norm. GLOBAL VS LOCAL Victor and Mei-Lan so far have forged cultural connections and learned techniques in the USA, France, Japan, and Switzerland, and continue to deepen their ties to these countries as well as other locales in the world. ather than a singular brand, UMÉ Studio is a group of individuals pursuing their identity through craft around the world. The practice is at once global and local, with a focus on designing objects for the home that are for the everyday, meant to engage and incite curiosity, and connect people, their cultures and their histories.

- Luigi Saccardo UFO Pedestal Table in Steel and Glass by Maison Jansen 1970sBy Maison Jansen, Luigi SaccardoLocated in Montecatini Terme, ITRound pedestal dining table model UFO with a base in brushed steel and tabletop in thick glass with a black enamel decorative circle. Designed by Luigi Saccardo and manufactured by Maison Jansen in the 1970s. Maison Jansen was a Paris-based interior decoration office founded in 1880 by Dutch-born Jean-Henri Jansen. From its beginnings, Maison Jansen combined traditional furnishings with influences of new trends including Anglo-Japanese style, the Arts and Crafts movement, and Turkish style. The firm paid great attention to historical research with which it attempted to balance clients' desires for livable, usable, and often dramatic space. Within ten years the firm had become a major purchaser of European antiques, and by 1890 had established an antique gallery as a separate firm that acquired and sold antiques to Jansen's clients and its competitors as well. In the early 1920s Jean-Henri Jansen approached Stéphane Boudin, who was then working in the textile trimming business owned by his father and brought him on board. Accounts of the arrangement vary. Speculation existed that Boudin was able to provide financial solvency to the prominent but capital-poor atelier. Boudin's attention to detail, concern for historical accuracy, and ability to create dramatic and memorable spaces brought increasing new work to the firm. Boudin was made director and presided over an expansion of the firm's offices and income. Not originally equipped with its own workrooms for producing furniture the firm began by relying upon antiques and the furniture contracted to outside cabinetmakers. By the early 1890s Maison Jansen had established its own manufacturing capacity producing furniture of contemporary design, as well as reproductions, primarily in the Louis XIV, Louis XVI, Directoire, and Empire styles. Throughout the firm's history, it employed a traditional style drawing upon European design, but influence of contemporary trends including the Vienna Secession, Modernism, and Art Deco has also appeared in Jansen interiors and in much of the custom furniture the firm produced between 1920 and 1950. Under Boudin's leadership, Maison Jansen provided services to the royal families of Belgium, Iran, and Serbia; Elsie de Wolfe, and Lady Olive Baillie's Leeds Castle...Category

- Modern Console Table in Mirror Polished Stainless SteelBy Duffy LondonLocated in London, GBThe Impossible console table from Christopher Duffy builds on Duffy London’s repertoire for illusionary design, with a three-dimensional trompe-l'œil played out in eye-catching polished and matte black steel. A shimmering and mysterious construction that proves robust and sturdy, despite a rather delicate appearance. Stepped facets highlight the sudden transition from solid to negative space with the top half appearing to be detached and floating, unsupported, above its base. Conceived as much a piece of contemporary sculpture and visual trickery as it is conventional furniture, The Impossible table...Category
