    This piece made in England, circa 1770 is of an unusual size and with the added feature of folding drop leaves. Made from solid mahogany without veneers the piece is heavy and mannish with a deep rich color to the wood. The table is accented with fine detailed carved line bands along the edge of the drop leaves and well shaped turned balusters for uprights and nice simple feet on pads. While described by Sheraton in his essay of 1803 as" a useful piece of furniture to serve in some respects the place of a waiter, whence it is named" the type of furniture was used from the 1720s on as a place to put plates...
