About the Item

This side table was created for a Thai client for his beach house. He bought one of our outdoor lounge-beds and needed a side-table. He was not content with the tempered glass we had on offer and asked if we could not 'come up with something nicer'. We decided to create a top with the same reclaimed we used for his outdoor sofa. He thought this was 'actually very nice'. Tendercool designs, inspired by Mies van der Rohe’s cross-shaped columns used in the Barcelona pavilion. This handy table is hand-made by welding extruded cross-profiled brass rods in one continuous, 90 degrees angled line: sounds easy, is hard. For those with keen eyes, it is the exact same table as elsewhere on this site, but flipped to its side, to allow sliding closer to when lounging… This particular table was made for a client to enjoy in his holiday home in the hills of Phuket while lying on one of our large lounge beds and enjoying the panoramic views. This table can slide over the bed for cocktail hour, without the client having to get up from his very comfortable position! This is the first of our tables that we made using wood. The wood needed to be carefully cut and joined in order to create the elegant criss cross pattern you see. The top also slides off for cleaning purposes. P. Armando is hitting eighty and doesn't even think of retiring, he simply loves his job, and we dearly love him. Since the 1950s his uncle and later Armando himself headed a major foundry in Milano. Lead-time 12 weeks Important notes 100% hands, no robots BLT Frames P.Tendercool's BLT frames are made with extruded brass rods and are 100% cut, welded, cleaned, brushed and finished by Hand. Which means BLTs will never be machine-perfect: some edges will be a bit rounded or very slightly out of angle. This may leave tiny gaps when placed together and some welding traces will always be visible. BLTs show our hands... BLTs can be used outdoors but be aware that Brass and Bronze oxidizes: although we apply a protective, maintenance-free primer-coating, minor discoloration over time will occur. Antique dealers call this Patina. Expect this mainly with our naked BLTs, which show the natural brass, This patination phenomenon is perfectly normal, inevitable and intentional. BLTs will age with grace. BLT Glass tops We offer a range of tempered glass tops in a great many colors, or send us your swatch and we'll match. We advise not to sit or stand on our BLTs with glass tops and note glass tops typically are a few mm smaller than the frames to ensure they'd always fit: minor gaps between glass and frames are normal.

Condition:
Wear consistent with age and use. Since we use reclaimed wood from Vintage Thai houses, the wood may show traces of restoration, some holes might be filled in (from old wooden pegs), or other marks from the wood's past, which in our view add a unique character to each item we create.
