Both tables are signed in relief and are in great condition.Made in USA Circa1965, acid-etched and enameled patinated brass over pewter over wood with hand applied polychrome.Designed and produces in 1965 by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, by a father and son American artisan team.These rare and extremely sought after Spring Festival Chan patterned hexagonal occasional tables. These unique sculptural side tables are strong and sturdy and can be used as is or with an added glass tabletop to increase usable surface area. * Dimensions: Height: 16 in. (40.64 cm)Width: 18 in. (45.72 cm)Depth: 10 in. (25.4 cm). Both examples in original condition and have been very well kept. Each example is signed. This rare, coveted, in-demand and sought-after side tables are best described as a functional sculpture. Philip and Kelvin considered themselves artists, rather than furniture makers, and their gallery motto was "Works of Art". So for most of the collector and antique dealer world, we consider this a sculpture that can be used as a side tables, end tables. It is sturdy and structurally sound, and since the materials are of a strong and robust nature - it is absolutely suitable for every day use. But of course, if you prefer, you can place it in your room purely for viewing purposes, it is similar to any other piece of quality, Fine art that you would otherwise place on a museum wall.Very good vintage condition, all original. Minor wear to top. Top possesses normal use marks. Polychroming is present, beautiful patina throughout. Very nice example, ready for immediate use. Signatures clear and visible.Father and son duo Philip (1907—1987) and Kelvin (born 1936) Laverne were widely recognized for their sculptural and historically influenced furniture although their oeuvre also included fine art and sculpture. From the mid-1950s through the 1980s, they utilized the centuries-old bronze casting techniques using low relief sheets in their works including cabinets, coffee and occasional tables among many other objects. They created a distinct blend of function and artistry while incorporating ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Greek archaeological and art historical references. Their uncommon techniques included applying patina and acid etching to mixed metals such as pewter, brass, and bronze. The furniture and sculpture of Philip and Kelvin Laverne is highly sought after today for its one-of-a kind quality and demonstrated mastery of functional decor.Work by the designers has steadily been increasing in value over the past 5-10 years.
