19th Century Italian Pietra Dura Top Table Depicting Birds on a Carved Base

About the Item

An Italian Pietra dura top occasional table Constructed in carved gilt wood, having a pietra dura inlaid circular platform; rising from a tripartite base, the legs terminating in scrolls, supporting the baluster form carved column, the gilt wood border with shaped apron of inverted anthemia, housing a superb top of black slate inlaid with a scene of birds perched on branches surrounded by butterflies, utilising precious hardstones including malachite and lapis lazuli. Italian, circa 1870.

    Important Palatial & Rare 19th Century Pietra Dura Giltwood Centre Table. This magnificent rectangular table incorporates an exquisitely inlaid Florentine Pietra Dura work of art. The truly incredibly and colourful hardstone specimens have been meticulously chosen & inlaid to form the most gorgeous floral display. It is amongst the finest of its type. This masterpiece is displayed on its original carved work of sculptural art, a baluster stem with acanthus leaves and raised on four acanthus leaf scrolled feet, the gilding, burnished in parts to perfection and highlighting a palatial majesty.
