Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper "Eros" Marble Coffee Table, Italy, 1970s
A series of marble tables to conclude research into embedded furniture without connections or clamps: the structural design of the "Eros" tables includes gravity-based embedding between the top and the leg, made possible by the truncated-conical portion of the leg itself, which easily stores the table top in a pre-set position, while the weight of the material further adjusts the embedding and increases the overall stability of the entire structure. A system provided in different shapes and sizes, each with its own special embedding. The elegant design of the eyelets along the edges and corners of the table tops results in the elimination of the more fragile parts that were not resistant to tension and tension: a refined detail and distinctive feature of this authentic piece of the structural invention.
Angelo Mangiarotti (1921-2012) was an Italian architect and Industrial designer with a reputation to mainly focus on the needs of the users of furniture. His designs are solid and strong and he always used materials that will stand the test of time. Mangiarotti was very precise in using the right material and the right sizing for his designs.
