Italian Gold Gilded Rococo Console Table with Rosso Verona Marble Top
About the Item
Beautiful Italian Rococo console table with inserted top of rosso verona marble.
This console table has a pierced skirt centered by a rococo foliate ornament with complex volute floral and foliate carved cabriole legs. The legs are jointed by cabriole stretchers with a pierced rococ ornament in the middle. The table is carved from pine. The carvings softened with gesso and than polished with red earth. This was the base layer on wich the gold was attached to. The gold gilding has two techniques. The table is partly gold leaf gilded, partly gilded by the use of gold paint. The red earth base layer gives an extra warm appearance to the gold.
The marble top is partly inserted in the top and is made of rosso verona marble. This marble is one of the most important marbles of Italy and has almost become synonymous with the splendor of Venice.
This table has a nice widt making it an ideal candidate for a hall side table.

- Condition:Repaired: Small repairs to the gilding throughout the piece were carried out in our atelier. Wear consistent with age and use. The table is in very good authentic condition with strong gold leaf gilding and only very little fading. The table was gently cleaned inside and out and is very solid and ready or use.
