BDC Pair of Side Tables in Travertine and Alucore

About

BDC stands for “bout de canapé” [end table: literally “end of sofa”]. The object schematically represents a slice of a sofa scaled down by 15%. Robert Stadler uses for this side table the gluing of aluminium to travertine, a 1960s method of making a building lighter, to enable the cutting of stone to just 5mm. Whenever facades are covered with stone, this technique is used. Set of two. Materials: Travertine (finish: levigato fine), Alucore Dimensions (single element): H 70.8 cm x W 59.1 x D 30.50 Object made to order, by hand, in Italy Also available individually, in left or right orientation.

STUDIO ROBERT STADLER

STUDIO ROBERT STADLER

View Profile
Paris-based Austrian designer Robert Stadler was born in 1966 in Vienna. In 2001 Robert Stadler set up his own design studio in Paris. He works for clients such as Dior, Lobmeyr, Palais de Tokyo, Ricard, Thonet and Vitra and also has created a number of limited edition pieces for Carpenters Workshop Gallery since 2008. His work is included in several private and public collections such as MAK - Museum for Applied Arts / Contemporary Art in Vienna, Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Fondation Cartier pour l’Art contemporain and Fonds National d'Art Contemporain. In 2017 the Noguchi Museum in New York presented his first institutional exhibition in the US in dialogue with Isamu Noguchi’s works. In the same year his first survey exhibition was shown at Kunsthalle im Lipsiusbau in Dresden, Germany. Robert Stadler intervenes in diverse fields, obliterating hierarchies between - as he puts it - "Duty Free" proposals, and industrial or public commissions. He questions the object’s identity and explores the exhibition space in order to scramble the usual categories of art and design.
