Terence Harry Robsjohn-Gibbings was a British designer and architect born in 1903, in Widnes, England and passed in 1976 in Athens, Greece. In 1928, Robsjohn-Gibbings sailed to New York and later became an American citizen. In the late 1930's, he was one of the most important, well-known designers in America. He opened his own shop on New York's Madison Avenue in 1936. Robsjohn-Gibbings worked as a designer from 1943 to 1956 for Widdicomb Furniture Company. Widdicomb Furniture Company was an American furniture company manufacturer founded in 1858 by George Widdicomb. The compamy originally started as a cabinet shop in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They were known for their spindle bed frames. Later on, in 1915, it was sold to Joseph Griswold, Sr. and Gotfrey von Platen and merged with Mueller Furniture Corporation. Many well known designers and architects were worked and designed for them, such as British designer T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings and American designer George Nakashima.
