Turned Wooden Pedestal #9 in Ebonised Catalpa

About the Item

This custom version of the #9 Pedestal, one of the ten original shapes in the Lehrecke Pedestal collection from 1996, is ebonised catalpa, made from a log from the Hudson Valley, in New York State. All of Lehrecke's Pedestals are made on a custom built, heavy duty lathe, in his Hudson Valley Studio. They are crafted with state of the art tools, giving these pieces a elemental yet refined appearance. Turned by a master craftsman with locally sourced wood. The inspiration for the entire pedestal collection is from African furniture, tools and currency, which Lehrecke has been collecting for years. After turning, these pieces are set to dry for three months and this one was given an ebonised finish, followed by an extra matte water based top-coat. The variety of shapes, sizes and options of different local woods sourced by Lehrecke are numerous. The #9 pedestal shape is a convex sided drum, measuring 17 D x 16 H.
