Early 19th C. Biedermeier Sofa Table/Desk With Lyre-Form Trestle Base
About the Item
Early 19th c., Biedermeier cherrywood and banded rectangular desk/sofa table. The top is above a single drawer with center brass crest key escutcheon on lyre-form trestle base joined by a stretcher. Key is not retained. A beautifully rich patina has developed over time.
Elegant and symmetrical, consisting of clean lines with a beautiful bookmatched veneer, the table shows the influence of Austrian Biedermeier furniture designer Josef Danhauser (1780-1829).

Condition:
Good/fair, shows age and use. Old crack in stretcher and in termination of one lyre-form trestle (see photographs). A few small areas of veneer loss to side of top. Shows well and ready to place.
