Rosewood American Rococo Revival Sofa Table or Writing Table NYC, circa 1840

About the Item

A beautiful American Rococo Revival sofa table in rosewood with shaped drop-leaves, escargot feet, and well-articulated foliate carvings on apron and cabriole legs. Attributable to well-known New York cabinetmaker, Joseph Meeks & Sons. This is a very unusual form for an American table inspired by the French Rococo style, with its seemingly hinged "S" carved cabriole legs terminating in escargot carved feet. New York City, circa 1840. Table is three-dimensional, finished the same on both sides with a drawer on one side. Table once had casters. If casters were placed back on table it would be 30" high Makes a lovely sofa table, writing table or end table. Measures: 36 1/2" wide x 27" deep x 28 1/2" high open length 60" each leaf is 12" Note: You should always request a shipping quote.
