19th Century Renaissance Revival Desk Library Table

About the Item

Very ornately carved Renaissance Revival rich golden oak desk or library table with leather insert, that we believe to be original. Features include a sectioned front drawer with large carved key frame, double fluted tapered columns on either side with drop finials at each corner, incised carvings and applied carved buttons. A massive carved flanks the center of the elaborate stretcher between block column feet, also with applied buttons. Attributed to Herter Bros. New York. Both the front and the back are the same so it can be used in the middle of a room. The only difference is one drawer opens and the other is a faux drawer. See last two images. The stretchers measure deeper- 29.50 inches than the actual tabletop- 27.25 inches. See other measurements below.

Wear consistent with age and use. Very good condition with lovely original finish. Since many of our pieces are well over one to two hundred years old, there is no way for us to detect every expert repair that may have been previously made.
