Danish Mid-Century Yngve Ekström for Dansk Solid Oak Table with Reversible Top

About the Item

Danish Mid-Century, Yngve Ekström designed solid oak table with reversible top. Manufactured by Dansk in the 1960s, this Mid-Century table is among the more inventive multi-functional pieces to emerge from the Scandinavian Modern movement. Constructed entirely from solid oak, the design centers on a square top that rests within an x-base frame — engineered to be lifted and flipped to reveal two distinct surfaces: one side features a carved concave fruit bowl, the other a flat tabletop. The piece functions equally as a side table or coffee table depending on orientation and top position. The x-base frame connects four square-section legs with a geometric stretcher system, providing structural stability while keeping the overall silhouette open and light. The solid oak construction is consistent with Ekström's preference for honest, unpretentious materials. The reversible top mechanism requires no hardware — it simply rests and rotates within the frame, a hallmark of thoughtful Scandinavian functional design. Shows some wear consistent with age and use, including some surface discoloration and light scratching to the top.
