Table Andy, Flower Shape, Brushed Oakwood, Italy

About the Item

The Andy collection is intended to pay homage to the values of a generation who set out to change the world, and whose culture is still widely admired today. Indeed, it is impossible to ignore the effects of the social revolution of the 1960s, and with this collection VG is paying tribute to the main features of the hippy culture, such as a desire for peace and a search for harmony. During the 1960s, flowers became the symbol of a cultural revolution which had radical effects on society and our way of life. Flower Power vindicated sexual freedom, unconventional ways of dressing, and a harmonious relationship with nature: challenging the traditional, conservative mind-set. Flowers suggested a certain lightness of touch, a taste for the more transient and hedonistic aspects of life, including tolerance towards drug use. However, flowers were not simply decorative, but rather were used and valued as a potent ideological symbol. Andy Warhol was the first to transform the image of the flower into something modern, fluorescent, over-the-top and unconventional. In his work Flowers, Warhol manipulated the traditional image of the flower, typically found in the bourgeois home, turning it into an object of mass consumerism by printing it in series, with many different variations in size and color. The Andy collection by VG uses flowers as a decorative element, producing a highly imaginative and exciting range of furniture.
