Victorian Papier Mâché and Mother-of-Pearl Inlayed Work Table
About the Item
This fine piece has been expertly made from papier mâché inlaid with sections of mother-of-pearl and extensively polychromed to create an interesting whole. The tables main decorative elements are the floral painting and the rich gilded tendrils, borders and arabesques seen throughout the piece. Once this piece would have had a fabric bag for the housing of needlework. This, while not shown, is still possible to use as the framework for it is available. The lid lifts to show a paper decorated interior section again with polychrome decoration. The piece has an old Christies auction label with it from its previous owner.
